How to connect Wii to the Internet

Connecting a Nintendo Wii console to the Internet through a wireless router may seem daunting at first, but it is actually quite simple. Just follow these steps:

1. Double-check that your wireless router is on and operating properly. Preferably, test that Internet access is working properly by using a computer connected to the network. If this is the first time you are connecting a non-PC, reread the router manual.

2. Connect your Nintendo Wii console to a power source, and turn it on.

3. Press the A button on the Nintendo Wii console controller to continue at the health and safety warning screen.

4. At the main menu, move the hand-shaped cursor using the Wii console controller to the Wii icon in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. Press the A button to access it.

5. On the Wii console options page, click the Wii Settings box on the right side of the screen.

6. Once on the Wii settings page, you’ll need to use the left or right arrow to cycle through to the Internet option. Select it, and then select Connection Settings.

7. The next page will list open connections. Select the first open connection. For most users, this will be Connection #3. Then, select Wireless Connection, and then select Search for an Access Point Option.

8. You will see your wireless router in the list of access points for the Wii console. For most users, there will be only one access point. Select it, and then select OK, which will save the settings.

9. Lastly, click OK again, which will initiate the Nintendo Wii console connection test. If this passes, you are ready to play online with your Wii console through the wireless router.
