Sony Bans PS3 Jailbreak Users

It appears that Sony has made good is promised to ban all PS3 jailbreak users (those who hack the Sony PlayStation 3 console to install and run custom packages). It is now being reported by the members of the PS3 Hacking site that Sony’s axe is being wield first in Europe and the US.

First Sony sends offending users an initial email that states: “A circumvention device and/or unauthorized or pirated software currently resides on your PlayStation(R)3 system. Immediately cease use and remove all circumvention devices and delete all unauthorized or pirated software from your PlayStation(R)3 system. Failure to do so will result in termination of your access to the PlayStation(R)Network and access to Qriocity(TM) services through your PlayStation(R)3 system.”

Users who fail to comply with the email Will subsequently receive a second email without warning stating: “Notice: Access to the PlayStation(R)Network and access to Qriocity(TM) services through your PlayStation (R)3 system has been terminated permanently due to the use of unauthorized circumvention devices and unauthorized or pirated software on your PlayStation(R)3 system. This use violates the terms of both the “System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation(R)3 System” and the “Terms of Services and User Agreement” for the PlayStation(R)Network/Qriocity(TM) and its Community Code of Conduct provision.”

A banned user will get an error code 8002A227 with the following message: “You cannot use PlayStation Network with this account”. PS3 owners are encouraged to contact their local support centre if they feel they have received the emails in error.
